The sun is like a ticking bomb. Exposing to the sun vulnerably for a long time can cause undesirable consequences. Remember, our skin is not a shield which can protect itself, but a living organism. Only in a few minutes, UVA rays can cause harmful effects on the skin like UVB rays.
While the UVB rays cause sun burnt by carrying high energy, UVB rays are rays which cause serious harms on the skin but not cause sun burn by reaching the skin’s deep layers. Over sunbathing cause various kinds of skin diseases: sun burn, over sensitivity against the sun, skin aging, pigment spots and cancer.
All of us is not equal for the sun:
2/3 of the skin diseases result from the sun’s harmful rays. The main source of the problem is not the sun itself, but how the people protect themselves against the sun. Skin develops some protection mechanisms against UVA and UVB rays. These can be expressed as tanning, thickening of the stratum corneum layer and cell renewing process. Dermatologists call this protection power in which the skin protects itself against the sun as “natural defense against the sun”. This power is special for each person and cannot be changed. However, “natural defense against the sun” is not generally enough to protect the skin against the sun’s harmful rays.
Suggestions for protection against the sun:
Reduce the sun bathing. Take physically precautions in the times of exposing to the sun. These can be umbrella, hat, cloths and sun protection products. Even if the protection factor is expressed, most of the protection products do not provide protection against UVA rays.
How to be spent a day under the sun:
Select a product which is against the UVA and UVB rays before going to beach. Use high protection factor in the first days, then keep using the suitable protection factor products for your skin type.
Everyone can take use of the sun before 11.00 except the under 3 years old pupils who should always be under the shadow. Providing that you do not exaggerate, you can stay under the sun incrementally each day after the first day. Use your sun protection product frequently and after the each sea bathing. And of course drink water in abundance.
Between the hours of 11.00-16.00 everyone should stay in shadows, because they are the most dangerous hours of sun. %80 of the UV’s can penetrate inside of the clouds between the hours of 16.00-18.00. Even if it is a cloudy day, take precautions for yourself. Tanning does not mean protection of skin. Take precautions until the last days of the sun bathing especially against the UVA’s. Use hat, sun glasses and umbrella.
After the hour of 18.00, control both your skin and children skin frequently. If there is a blush, do not worry. Use the after sun protection products. On the following days, stay in the shadow with the suitable cloths.
