You can start to take birth control pills with some different ways. But firstly, discuss with your health care expert the pros and cons of the following methods:
• It is possible to take then on the first days of the menstrual period, so you will not need back up birth control.
• It is possible to take them Sunday after your period starts, so you will not need back up birth control for seven days.
• It is possible to take them on the day they prescribed, so you will need to make sure you are not pregnant, and you will need to use back up birth control for the first month. If your pregnancy test results are negative and it has been 10 or 11 days left since the last sexual relation, you can almost be sure that you are not pregnant and it is OK to use pills.
Starting each new pack should be on the same day of the week which you began the first pack no matter when you start to take birth control pills. For example, if you start to take the birth control pills on Sunday, you should continue to take the birth control pills on Sundays. Do not forget that the birth control pills work only if you take them everyday. They do not accumulate in your body, because of that reason you should take them everyday. You should not stop taking the birth control pills on purpose or by accident even if you have not sex often. Furthermore, some medications like antibiotics can make your birth control pills less effective. If you skip a pill or you are taking a medication which can interfere with your birth control pills, a back up method should be used for the rest of the cycle.
