Dermatologists generally separate the skin types into 6 groups from photo type 1 (easily burn but not tanned) to photo type 6 (dark black skin which is not easily burnt). Darker colored skinned people have more natural protection capacity against sun than the light colored skinned people. Type 2 is generally easily burnt but minimum tanned. The people who have type 1 and 2 skin should use at least 30 factor sun care product additionally to the all sun protection methods. Type 3 can be tanned and also sometimes can be sun burnt. The people who have Mediterranean skin type (type 4) can easily be tanned and rarely be sun burnt. For the types of 3 and 4, at least 15 factor sun care product is necessary. It is suggested that the people who have skin type 5 and 6 should use sun care products when they will stay under sun for a long time.

How should the sun care products be used?
Lots of factor affects the effectiveness of sun care products. One of these factors is the method of using. The sun care products should be used as applying 2 mg per centimeter square. If they are used less, the affectivity reduces. Because of this reason, a practical method is suggested to be applied: at least half dessert spoon is applied for neck, face and each arm; at least one dessert spoon for body, front side and back side of the body and each leg.

Sun cares are expelled 15-30 minutes earlier before going out under the sun, and should be repeated just before going out. This application provides both to minimize the unapplied areas and to use the optimum sun care.

Sun cares should be repeated once 2-3 hours, especially after swimming, respiration and drying with a towel.

Which kind of precautions about sun care can be taken?
It should be stayed in shadow especially between the hours of 10.00 and 14.00. However, do not forget that sun lights can reach us by jumping from the surface even in the shadows.
Protection with cloths, sun glasses and hats should be taken care. If the cloth lets the sun lights pass by, do not forget that ultraviolet rays can reach to the skin.
At least 15 factor sun cares should be used every day regularly. This should be at least 30 factors for the people who have type 1 and 2 skin.

Is there different precaution for children?
The babies under 6 months should not be exposed to sun directly. Because of that reason, they should be clothed with cloths which cover their arms and legs. Sun care products can be used for babies after the sixth months. The baby oils provide permeability, and because of this reason they should not be used while going out.
Organize the hours which will be benefited in the evenings and the early hours of mornings, because in these hours sun lights do not reach the earth directly.
Do not forget that your children take you as an example. If you are careful about sun exposure, your children can easily get their habit.
It is known that sun lights provide to produce vitamin D in the body. People can provide vitamin D with the support of nourishment and vitamin, by exposing to a little bit sun (3 days in a week, 10 minutes) and without increasing the risk of cancer.

Which kind of nourishment can provide vitamin D?
Milk reinforced with vitamin D, orange juice, egg, fatty fishes like salmon can be suitable.
