Plantain and laxative effect

Seed pods of plantain contains ingredients that swell in the intestine. This leads to an increase in the amount off stools and bowel movements. It also reduces irritable bowel syndrome symptoms. Several studies showed the influence of plants. In many countries health organizations recommend plantain against chronic constipation. European Medicines Agency (EMA) is on the opinion that plantains are useful. The effect of plantains probably does not mean only to resolve constipation. According to several studies, it significantly lowered cholestrol levels. According to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), it reduces the risk of coronary heart disease.

 Application

One or two tablespoons of plantain seeds or half a tablespoon of powdered plantain seeds pods are left to swell into a glass of water for constipation. Swallow it with a little liquid. Seeds will slowly show the impact. Consume at least 2 liters of liquid during the day.

 Risks and side effects

Not suitable for children under 12 years old. It may create a feeling of bloating and fullness. If not consumed enough liquid, it may cause bowel obstruction.
