Is it safe to swim in a chlorinated pool during pregnancy
Should the pregnant women go to swimming pools? English scientists express that swimming pools can cause miscarriage or some disabilities for the baby in pregnancy period. Here is the survey and its consequences:
The scientists who work in the Royal College in England’s capital city London expressed that swimming pools can cause miscarriage or some disabilities for the baby. Scientists also warned that chlorine and similar chemicals are added to the swimming pools for the reason of keeping the swimming pools clear. They expressed that they took some samples from 8 swimming pools in London and they came across with high amount of chemicals which affect the fetus’ development in a negative way.
The scientists, who say that there is high trihalometane amount using for disinfecting the swimming pools, suggested using this substance as less as possible. Scientists reminded that these substances are the derivations of chloroform and chloroform is counted as a cancerogenic substance.
Dr Mark Nieuwenhuijsen, one of the scientists who perform the study, said that they do not suggest to prospective mothers abandoning swimming, but the prospective mothers should regulate the times which they stay in swimming pools. The chemicals like chloroform and the other chemicals in the swimming pools, which are accepted as cancerogenic substance by International Cancer Survey Foundation, are stated that these substances are taken via absorbing from the skin and respiration to the body.
