Characteristics of Adolescence Period

Adolescence is a transition period between childhood and adulthood. For that reason, it has own peculiar characteristics. The most important characteristic of this period is that rapid physical, spiritual and sexual development is seen. Changing of body proportion in the periods of growth and development in which includes adolescence show themselves distinctly. As we mentioned above, the ages between 12-21 are adolescence period. The entering age of adolescence can change according to sex and climate. Girls enter the adolescence period 2 years earlier than boys. Entering the adolescence in hot countries is earlier than the cold countries like Sweden, Norway. In adolescence, increasing in length of boys is 10-30 cm, of girls is 10-20 cm. With the same way, 15 kg gained kilo occurs in adolescence. Besides increasing in length and kilo, important changes occur in skeleton system. Oil tissue grows and muscle tissue develops. Changes in oil and muscle tissue differ from girls and boys. Muscle development of boys is more than girls and rising of oil tissue of girls is more than boys. One of the other changes in adolescence is rising in hormones. Especially with growing hormone rising of sexual hormones occur. Let’s explain the changes of boys and girls in adolescence. Girl in adolescence: for girls who are in adolescence some changes are seen. Secondary changes occur in adolescent girls. As a result of these changes, it starts to disappear the concrete lines of adolescent girls’ body and to form her legs, arms and other organs like a woman. Pilosity occurs in armpit and genital areas. Acnes appear on the faces. Besides secondary changes, the main changes appearing are to mature the egg cells and to start the menstrual bleeding consequently. In adolescence period, starting of menstrual bleedings is generally at the ages of 10-13. Sometimes starting of menstrual bleedings can late to the ages of 15-16. Menstrual bleedings are the events of ejaculation the fertilized egg with intra uterine epithelium, blood and flows. Fertilizing the egg in oophoron, fertilized egg’s moving on towards the womb, at the same time separation of intra uterine changes and fertilized egg with menstrual bleeding are called menstrual circle. Normally, menstrual circle is 28 days. Once 28 days, a matured egg is ejaculated from oophoron of women. Egg cells are ejaculated by maturing. The ejaculating of eggs after maturing of egg cells is called ovulation. If the egg cell which is threw to the egg channel with ovulation ( fallop tube) combines with male sexual cells, fertilization occurs. However the improvement will be in womb after fertilization, the womb gets ready for pregnancy. Intra uterine which becomes rich with regard to blood vein gets thicker. If the pregnancy does not occur, this superficial layer which gets thicker is ejaculated with bleeding. This event which is called menstrual bleeding lasts until the ages of 45-49. Because of that reason, the women who are at the ages of 15-49 are accepted as fertile women. Menstrual bleeding stops when the pregnancy occurs. Menstrual bleedings can be irregular on the occasions of tension, stress and some diseases. Traveling, tiredness and climate changes can affect the menstrual bleeding’s normal level. Irregularity of menstrual bleeding can be seen at the first years of bleedings. This irregularity in the first years can last 2-3 years. Menstrual bleedings last as long as 3-5 days. The first day in which the bleeding starts is accepted the first day of menstrual circle.
The boy who is at the adolescence period: the boys enter the adolescence period later than the girls. However, the boys’ adolescence period contains wider period than the girls. Some changes are seen for boys in the adolescence period. These are; occurring the acnes on the face, moustache and beard, voice thickening, fast rising in length, improving of the muscles etc.

Voice thickening which is one of the typical changes in adolescence period results from stretching the vocal cords.
